Perfect Nail Care

If you think people don't notice your nails, well think again! Ugly, raggedy fingernails can impact your image and get you noticed in a negative way. Perfect nails aren't hard to come by - they just need a little tender loving care!

Keep your nails clean! Dirty nails are one of the biggest turn offs (even worse than dirty hair!) Use a mild hand cleanser and after thoroughly drying them, clean under the nails with a cuticle stick wrapped in cotton. You can even use a bit of cuticle remover or lemon juice under the nail to get them really looking clean! If the stains are on top of your nails or you have ridges on them, use a very, very fine grain buffer to sand them off and shine them up. Some buffing products can make your nails shinier than a clear coat!

Keep your nails filed! Whether you want your nails to be long, short or in-between, well filed nails prevent hangnails and grow out much nicer than clipped nails. If you must clip your nails, file them to smooth raggedy edges after clipping. File in one direction only and don't use a metal file (use an emery board.) Keep them rounded as they will have less chance of breaking. Pointed nails are much more susceptible to breakage.

When it comes to cuticles, less is more. Cutting cuticles can damage them and actually increase the growth and thickness. Gently push them back thrice weekly and apply moisturizing cream or cuticle oil before bed. Many cuticle oils when regularly applied will give nails the needed moisture to keep them looking nice!

Some jobs can wreak havoc on nails and cuticles. It is important to wear rubber gloves if hands will be in water or chemicals often. Keep a nail strengthener on nails at all times to provide a barrier and constant protection against environmental hazards.

You can have nice nails and it won't take much time. Preventative measures are half the battle!
